Match Report
Saturday 18th July 2009 Pre-season friendly
Leverstock Green (1) 1 Davidson 9 (pen)
Eton Manor (0) 2 Nyama 78, Pamplin 85
at Pancake Lane

An unfamiliar-looking Leverstock Green side were beaten by two late goals in their opening pre-season friendly at home to Eton Manor, however new manager Colin Jones will have been encouraged by the way his side played, and held the lead for most of the game. With several of the senior players on holiday, there were a number of new names and triallists in the line-up. There was a welcome return for defender Louis West, who was absent for most of last season through injury.

Leverstock looked the better side early on, and went close to taking the lead on 6 minutes. Dan Stoker's cushioned header set up Curtis Donaldson, whose shot was tipped over the bar by keeper Nicky Mitchell. In the 8th minute a great pass from Mark Welling put Stoker through, only to be brought down in the box by a push from behind. The referee awarded the penalty, and Karl Davidson scored from the spot to put Green 1-0 up.

On 15 minutes Welling had a close-range effort from a corner blocked by Mitchell. Eton Manor went close to an equaliser on 25 minutes when Tom Nyama hit a long-range effort just over the bar. Green should have doubled their lead on 35 minutes when a cross from Tommy Edwards found Bekim Culaj with the goal at his mercy, but he sidefooted his shot onto the underside of the bar, and it bounced the wrong side of the line.

There was another chance on 52 minutes when Davidson played a ball into the box which Stoker slid in to meet, but put the ball wide. On 72 minutes Culaj set up Davidson, but his shot was deflected over the bar by a defender's leg.

As the Green side tired, the visitors capitalised with two late goals. On 78 minutes Nyama turned and shot home from the edge of the box past Kevin Marsh for the equaliser. Five minutes from time Asa Pamplin got on the end of a cross to score the winner.
