Steve Heath chalked up his first competitive win as Leverstock Green manager, as his side earned a well-deserved victory over Essex Senior League side Burnham Ramblers in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup. They will now travel to Ryman League side Enfield Town in the Preliminary Round in two weeks time.

Green started the match the stronger side and should have gone in front in the 7th minute. Lewis Pritchard found space on the right and squared to Dale Sears in front of goal, but Sears miscued his shot over the bar. In the 14th minute Bill Morgan overlapped on the right and put the ball across the face of goal, but it just eluded Pritchard, and Simon Conway couldn't divert the ball in at the far post.

The visitors had a good chance in the 29th minute. A cross from the left was headed down inside the box by James Clarke to Paul Carr, who hit a fierce shot from close range but Gary White pulled off a brilliant one-handed save to turn it away. The rebound found its way to John Bradley, who shot into the side netting. On 35 minutes Conway made a run from midfield before playing the ball out to Ben Hammond, who cut inside and hit a shot which Ramblers keeper Rob Small initially fumbled, but then reclaimed as Conway came in for the rebound. Four minutes before the break Gary Connolly headed off the line from a Burnham corner to keep the game scoreless at half time.

The visitors had the better chances early in the second half. On 49 minutes Stuart Fergus broke away, and fed Carr, who played the ball on to Bradley, whose eventual shot went across goal and just wide. A minute later Clarke shot over the bar from a very good chance.

However, it was Green who took the lead in the 65th minute. Conway's pass into the box put Pritchard through, but as Pritchard tried to take the ball round Small, he was tripped by the keeper's outstretched leg. The referee awarded the penalty, and Lee Bircham made no mistake from the spot to open the scoring.

The lead was doubled two minutes later. A long goal kick from White was helped on by Pritchard to Conway, and he struck a firm shot past Small into the corner of the net for a 2-0 Green lead.

Burnham made a triple substitution in the 70th minute, and five minutes later they pulled a goal back from a short corner routine. Bradley's cross found a glancing header from Reece Brandon which diverted the ball in off the far post giving White no chance.

Leverstock almost replied immediately as Pritchard turned and shot from the edge of the penalty area, but it was just wide. On 85 minutes Conway flicked on a White kick to substitute Jack Johnson, who took on and beat the last defender, but shot over the bar. Deep into stoppage time Burnham were awarded a free kick in a dangerous position, but Keith Wilson's effort went over the bar, and moments later the final whistle sounded to signal Green's passage into the next round.
