Match Report

Leverstock Green picked up where they left off on Saturday with another big win in Tuesday night’s friendly at Amersham Town. Saturday’s hat-trick hero Ollie Lawford was missing, and will be for some time after suffering a broken ankle in a game on Sunday, but there were still plenty of goals in the squad on a wet and very windy night.

The opening goal came in the fifth minute, as Adiel Mannion’s corner found Mickey Shuttlewood, who headed home his second goal of pre-season.

The lead was doubled in the 12th minute from a short corner routine. Brima Johnson crossed to the far post, and the ball was headed back across goal where Sidney Gueye shot home his second goal of pre-season.

Amersham almost pulled a goal back in the 17th minute with a shot that hit the bar, and what was a highly competitive match throughout threatened to boil over in the closing minutes of the half with a few yellow cards being shown by the referee.

The home side had a good chance to pull a goal back early in the second half, but the shot went over the bar from close range. Six changes were made to the Leverstock side during the second half, but they still continued to push forward well, now playing against the strong wind and occasionally rain.

The third goal came in the 59th minute as Adiel Mannion’s square ball across goal was turned into his own net by a defender.

Matt Fallon pulled off his best save of the game four minutes from time, tipping a fierce shot over the bar after an impressive move from Amersham, and with the clean sheet maintained a fourth goal was added in stoppage time as Guiseppe Delgaudiu slotted home a shot from the edge of the box.

Leverstock travel to Chipperfield Corinthians on Saturday for what may be their final friendly, depending on when SSML fixtures begin, and their first competitive game is next Tuesday night at home to Wembley in the FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round.
