Leverstock Green registered their first pre-season win with an excellent display at United Counties League side Northampton Spencer on Saturday. With manager Steve Heath currently on holiday, Neal Bartlett took sole charge of the squad, and despite a few players also being missing due to holidays, it was a strong-looking side that took the field today.
The Green took the lead just six minutes into the match. Adam Hallissey played a ball in from the left touchline to put Jon Davies through, and he finished superbly with a curling shot round the keeper. The lead was doubled in the 15th minute, with a goal that started from Lee Bircham's mazy run down the left touchline. Bircham's cross found Davies, who won a challenge with the keeper, and the loose ball broke for Adam Hallissey to slot home into the empty net.
On 27 minutes a volley from Ben Butler brought a great save out of the keeper, who tipped it over the bar. Three substitutes came on at half time, and one of them, Lewis Pritchard, could have added a third in the 47th minute when James Bundey's pass put him through, but he shot over the bar.
The home side pulled a goal back on 56 minutes when a neat one-two sliced through the Green defence and Darren Frost shot past Carl Tasker. However, three minutes later Leverstock restored their two-goal cushion when a pass from Joel Norris put Pritchard through again, and this time he rounded the keeper before walking the ball into the net.
A fourth goal was added three minutes from time, with Norris again the creator as his cross to the far post found Glenn Thompson, and the youngster lashed the ball home from close range.
Green's next friendly is on Thursday night, at home to Crawley Green, kick off 6.30pm.
