Leverstock Green are still looking for their first home league point of the season after squandering a half-time lead against London Colney.
The Green side had looked solid enough during the first half, having taken the lead in the 9th minute. Kris Tyrell played in a free kick from the left touchline to Adam Hallissey, who looked up and struck a superb shot from outside the penalty area which flew past keeper Mark Whittamore into the net.
There was little in the way of other chances for Leverstock, though, with the nearest miss coming from a long-range shot from Adrian Costa in the 34th minute.
There were a couple of goalmouth scrambles inside the Green box, the longer one in the 21st minute which ended with Dan McCafferty shooting over the bar. The visitors' best chance came two minutes before the break when Callum Wright crossed for Matt Newman, whose header was tipped over the bar by Green keeper David Bailey.
Leverstock suffered a blow at half time though, with Costa having to leave the game injured, being replaced by Stefan Owen-Edwards. They also found themselves in trouble within 30 seconds of the restart, as Colney attacked and Newman was brought down inside the box. The referee pointed to the penalty spot, and Dave Keenleyside netted the spot kick which levelled the scores and started the momentum of the match turning.
Colney began to put more pressure on the Green side and forced an error on 54 minutes. The ball was given away in midfield and Colney broke quickly, with Newman dinking a ball over the defence to put Keenleyside through on goal to shoot his side into a 2-1 lead.
It could have been three on 57 minutes when Newman was in again, but Bailey saved with his legs. Leverstock threatened a minute later when a corner was cleared to the edge of the box, but Adiel Mannion's shot was saved by Whittamore.
Steve Benitez made a double change on 74 minutes, bringing on Marvin Tabi and Jon Davies, but within a minute Colney broke away again and Newman ran clear to drill a tremendous shot past Bailey for a 3-1 lead, which ultimately put the game out of Green's reach. Newman was unlucky not to add another three minutes later with a shot that hit the post.
Leverstock are still well up the Premier Division table thanks to their four away wins, but after three defeats in a row they need to start picking up results and confidence quickly. They will hope to get back to winning ways when Hertford Town visit Pancake Lane this coming Tuesday night.
