Leverstock Green had to settle for a point from today's home game against London Tigers, which was a fair result in the end, although both sides will feel they had the chances to have won in the game in the second half.
The Pancake Lane pitch passed a morning inspection, although it was still wet, and cut up from the start of the game. The middle of the pitch became increasingly sticky during the game, which made passing difficult for both sides.
Dene Gardner had an effort in the opening minute having worked some space on the edge of the box, but shot wide. Gardner had a solo run at goal in the 5th minute, but his eventual shot was saved by Tigers keeper Jamie Adim. In the 18th minute Adim saved again when Elliot Braithwaite deflected a shot from Mark Woolley, and three minutes later Woolley laid the ball back to Lee Gardner on the edge of the box, but he shot over the bar.
For the rest of the first half it was the vistors who had the best chances. On 24 minutes a fierce shot from Kye Hendrix beat Kieron Jimmy but hit the post and deflected wide. On 38 minutes a cross from Yousef Elterafi wasn't adequately cleared, and Emmanuel Njodzeka hit a shot which Jimmy did well to turn round the post.
The second half continued in a similar vein with much of the play getting bogged down in the middle of the pitch but there were still chances. On 64 minutes Hendrix squared for Redion Fegad, whose shot from close range was saved by Jimmy, and Fegad had another good chance on 72 minutes but shot way over the bar from Roberjan Rodriguos' cross. A minute later at the other end a shot from Prince Alozie was deflected just wide.
Tigers had another good chance on 83 minutes when Rodriguos had a solo run at goal, but Jimmy did well to parry away his eventual shot. The best chance of the game fell to Leverstock in the last minute. Dene Gardner dinked the ball over the top to put Daniel Lake clean through on goal, and it looked as though Lake had done everything right as he knocked the ball past Adim, but it went the wrong side of the post by inches.
Neither side really deserved to lose the game; both sides defended well throughout while Leverstock had lots of running up front from Shakir Agada and Chad Pinching, but the delivery was a little lacking today, particularly from set pieces. The Green will look to get back to winning ways next Saturday with a home game against Cockfosters.
