Stars turn out for charity game

A good-sized crowd at Pancake Lane enjoyed a Sunday afternoon of fun and sunshine to raise money for the Hospice of St Francis. The Talk Sport All Stars side met a Leverstock Green Vets side in an entertaining charity match.

The All Stars side was managed by Green skipper Lee Bircham and featured TV stars Ralf Little from The Royle Family, Lucien Laviscount from Waterloo Road, Ziggy from Big Brother 8 and JJ Bird from Big Brother 11, along with ex-pros including Marc Bircham and Paul Furlong, and a few faces well known to followers of the current Green side.

The Leverstock Green Vets side was managed by Bobby Males and Mark Goodson and included Kevin Marsh, Allan Arthur, Kevin Brett, Johnny Wallace, Steve Hutchins, Lee Wakefield and Neal Bartlett.

It was the Leverstock Green Vets side who started best, with Allan Arthur putting them in front on 3 minutes and Lewis Saville adding a second from the penalty spot on 18 minutes.

Paul Furlong headed home a corner on 23 minutes to pull one back for the All Stars, and Lucien Laviscount, well-known to the younger contingent in the ground as Jonah from Waterloo Road, headed them level on 35 minutes. By half-time they were 3-2 up with Furlong heading home a Marc Bircham corner.

Ralf Little supplied the cross for Furlong to complete his hat-trick on 62 minutes, but two minutes later Saville scored from the spot again to pull it back to 4-3. Furlong scored his fourth with a header in the closing minutes to complete a 5-3 win for the All Stars.
