Match Report

Leverstock Green exited the Premier Division Cup at the first hurdle on a disappointing Tuesday evening at London Colney. The home side only had two real attempts at goal in the whole game , but both of them went in while Leverstock did not make the most of their possession or the chances they created.

London Colney took the lead in the 11th minute from a quick attack. Gareth Price received the ball on the edge of the box and drilled a low shot into the corner of the net past Green’s debutant keeper Tom Palmer.

The second goal came in the 21st minute.Elliot Beevor floated a free kick into the box, and Loren Maxwell’s header looped over Palmer into the far corner of the net.

Leverstock then started to come into the game. In the 24th minute a corner from Alex Witham dropped for Jude Bell, whose shot was goalbound but deflected off Chris Blunden. A minute later Jack Stevens let rip with a long-range shot which fizzed just wide of the post. Shortly afterwards came the best chance of the game when a pass from Blunden put Alex Yearwood through on goal, but he lifted his eventual shot over the bar.

Half time saw Luke Nugent replace the injured Alex Condon – the third Leverstock centre back to suffer an injury in the last few weeks. The Green side had much more possession in the second half, but did not create enough chances from that possession. Stevens had a shot saved by keeper on the hour, and Sam Nair had a shot turned wide nine minutes from time, but in truth Leverstock never looked like getting back into the game.

Attention now turns to the FA Vase, where Leverstock have a home tie against Essex Senior League side Sawbridgeworth Town in the First Round this coming Saturday.
