Match Report
Leverstock Green got off to a fast start as their pre-season preparation begin with a friendly away to Broadfields United. The Green side were 4-0 up in 20 minutes, and although the home side dominated the second half and staged a comeback, Leverstock came away with the win.
Ollie Cox had already hit a shot just wide after 30 seconds before putting Leverstock a goal up in the 2nd minute, slotting home a low shot. New signing Luke Beckwith made it 2-0 in the 7th minute with an excellent shot, and in the 16th minute Beckwith scored his second, getting on the end of a cross from Chris Blunden to score from close range. Blunden scored himself in the 20th minute with a solo run and shot to make it 4-0 to Leverstock.
The first half was cut short after a nasty injury to Alex Marsh, who was caught by a boot in the face. Fergus Moore made a number of changes for the second half, and Broadfields had much the better of things. Leverstock still had their chances, with Elgeniy Daalberg being denied by the keeper when clean through in the 50th minute. Broadfields pulled their first goal back in the 58th minute, a goalline clearance from Brad Robinson not being enough to prevent a goal from the rebound.
A harsh penalty decision allowed Broadfields to pull a second goal back from the spot in the 69th minute, and when they pulled it back to 4-3 in the 75th minute it looked like a complete turnaround might be on the cards. However, Leverstock had a penalty of their own two minutes later when Ibrahim Nagheeb was brought down, and new signing George Mitchell-Gears netted the spot kick for a 5-3 lead, which remained until the end of the game.
