Match Report

Leverstock Green scraped through to the next round of the Herts Senior Cup on penalties after a 1-1 draw against Wormley Rovers on Tuesday night.

It was an ideal start for Leverstock as they took the lead in the third minute of the game. Callum Neal won the ball off of an opponent in midfield and played a through ball to put Joel Onu clear of the Wormley defence to run through and chip the ball past the keeper.

Leverstock had further chances in the first half. In the 27th minute Oliver Glimas set up Onu to hit a shot that went just over the bar, and two minutes later Aldo Petagine got on the end of a cross from Ethan Mooney, but shot over. In the 39th minute Justin Dass hit a volley that brought a good save out of the keeper, and Neal hit a shot just wide in the 43rd minute.

The second half saw the visitors come back into the game, and they had a chance for an equaliser in the 58th minute when Harry Andic broke away down the right and put in a cross which Charlie Boatwright-Collier got a touch on, but couldn’t divert on target. The equaliser came in the 74th minute. Harry Way went up to claim a cross but lost the ball under challenge from Louie Offer, and Marcus Crowther volleyed home the loose ball.

Leverstock had a couple of late chances to win the game within the 90, but Iker Noguera Leon’s shot was saved by the keeper, and Jeffrey Sekyere’s shot went wide.

The game went to penalties, and again Leverstock got off to a great start when Way pulled off a great save to keep out Dan Haigh’s opening kick. All kicks were successful from then on, with Leon, Juan Pablo Velasco, Sekyere and Glimas all scoring for Leverstock, until Wormley came up to take their fifth kick. Malik Jikiemi sent his kick wide of the target, meaning that Leverstock had won the shoot out 4-3.

In the next round Leverstock will be away to Hitchin Town or Baldock Town on a date to be arranged.
