Leverstock GreenMatch Report
Leverstock Green slipped into the bottom four of the Southern League Division One Central after a second straight league defeat without a goal. It was a depleted Leverstock squad that took to the field today, with four players making a first team debut over the course of the game. The first half was evenly-contested, but home side Thame took control in the second half.
There was a starting debut for midfielder Jamal Yates, stepping up from the reserves. Leverstock showed some early promise, with a couple of shots blocked inside the box. However, it was Leverstock keeper Harry Way who was first brought into action, tipping a shot from Harry Alexander over the bar.
Two minutes later it was the turn of Thame keeper Matt Crowther to make a great save, turning away a fierce shot from George Mitchell-Gears. There was another good chance shortly afterwards as a long kick from Way was met by hesitation in the Thame defence. Jack Allen nipped in first and sent a lob over Crowther, but it landed just wide.
Having held their own for the opening half hour, Leverstock found themselves behind in the 32nd minute as Louis Walsh was allowed too much time and space to line up a shot from 20 yards into the corner of the net.
Leverstock suffered a further blow just before half time with Mitchell-Gears having to leave the game injured, to be replaced by Princewill Madu, newly-signed from Aylesbury United.
The second half was only seven minutes old when Thame added a second goal, and it was similar to the first one. This time it was Ethan Lack striking a shot from outside the box into the corner of the net.
That largely ended the game as a contest, with Leverstock seldom looking like getting back into it. A third goal arrived in the 69th minute as Alexander received a through ball and slotted a shot past Way. Jack Tutton added the fourth deep into stoppage time with a solo run and shot.
The second half saw first team debuts for youngsters Ollie Grieves and George Eldridge, with the latter delivering a couple of decent crosses as Leverstock looked for a consolation goal.
