Leverstock Green played their final friendly as they travelled to Bovingdon on Saturday afternoon.

Matt Harding took the opportunity to give his squad a workout, with only two of the starting XI in this match having started the FA Cup tie in midweek. It was the home side who made the early running, twice hitting the bar in the opening ten minutes, firstly from a free kick in the 4th minute and then from a header four minutes later.

Elgeniy Daalberg was denied by a save from the Bovingdon keeper in the 11th minute, having been put through by Frank Jowle. Bovingdon hit the bar for a third time in the 21st minute, before Leverstock came on stronger towards the end of the half.

By the hour mark six changes had been made to the Leverstock side, and on the hour they scored when a great cross from Brima Johnson was headed home at the near post by James Hall, who had only been on the field for a minute. A strong run from Will Bisney was instrumental in setting up the goal.

Having scored one, Hall set one up in the 74th minute, playing a fantastic lofted pass from his own half to put Guiseppe Delgaudio through on goal to finish confidently. Hall almost scored another one two minutes later, but the keeper just got down at the post to turn the shot wide. The keeper also did well to tip over a shot from Adiel Mannion in the 82nd minute.

Overall a fine display from the squad, who will take confidence from their current winning run into next Saturday’s FA Cup Preliminary Round tie at home to Burnham.
