Jonathan Lacey scored for the FA Representative XI with a diving header in yesterday’s 3-1 win against the Falkland Islands team in Stanley.
JJ also scored twice for the team in a warm-up match against Harborough Town last Thursday week – the above picture was taken at that match. The 16-man squad travelled out to the Falklands on an RAF plane last Wednesday.
JJ played the whole 90 minutes in Saturday’s match against the Falklands side, scoring the second goal which gave the FA side a 2-0 half-time lead. The Falklands pulled a goal back in the second half, but the FA side added a third from the penalty spot to win 3-1.
Today the squad take part in a Remembrance Sunday commemoration, and then play a match against Combined Services with a 3pm local time kick-off (6pm our time). Audio commentary will be available on BFBS Falklands Radio.
Some tweets are attached below which give a flavour of the build-up, the match and the surroundings it was played in.
What a pleasure it was to to host an event for the visiting team from the #FootballAssociation and their #Falklands counterparts – celebrating friendship through sport and looking forward to the matches over the weekend. pic.twitter.com/2xvvRUtYSm
