Match Report
Leverstock Green began their defence of the St Mary’s Cup with a 5-2 win over Bushey Sports Club in Tuesday night’s First Round tie.
Mark Smith gave the Green an early lead with a tap-in after six minutes, but Bushey soon equalised from the penalty spot after a handball decision.
The scores were still level at half time, but two quick goals early in the second half put Leverstock in control. Jordon Goode made it 2-1 with a header, and when a shot from Goode hit the bar, Reynaldo Carbon netted the rebound for 3-1.
Bushey still weren’t finished as a breakaway goal saw them reduce the arrears to 3-2, but almost immediately Leverstock restored their two-goal advantage. Salim Sahnoun’s shot was parried and Marcus Campbell followed in to make it 4-2. Alex Witham made it 5-2 from a free kick to complete the scoring.
The result takes Leverstock in the semi-finals, and a goal-happy performance tonight will be a confidence boost going into Saturday’s tough league match against Potton United. Another big positive of the evening was the long-awaited return from injury of Shane Wood, coming on as a substitute for Kane O’Neil in the second half.
