Leverstock Green U18Match Report
The Under-18s run in the FA Youth Cup was finally ended on Friday evening at Chelsmford City, but they did the club proud and took the game to a penalty shoot-out with a late equaliser.
Lucas Hammer had a run at the Chelmsford goal in the 5th minute but hit his shot just wide. It was a blow for the side when Hammer had to leave the game with a foot injury in the 22nd minute. Keeper Ben Jackson made a couple of good saves in the first half, and in the last minute of the half Ashton Corder ran through on goal but hit his shot straight at the keeper.
The deadlock was only broken in the 65th minute by a goal which had an element of fluke about it, as a mishit cross from near the left touchline ended up looping over Jackson’s outstretched arm into the net. As the game went into stoppage time it looked like that goal was going to be decisive, however in the second minute of stoppage time Corder delivered a cross from the right and Finley Clark got up at the far post to head home a sensational equaliser.
That took the game into penalties, but Seb Kirkup’s opening kick was saved. Sam Brewster scored with his penalty, but further saves from Corder and Oscar Roe’s efforts meant that Chelmsford won the shoot-out 3-1 and get the reward of a plum home tie against Leyton Orient in the First Round Proper.
